Thus, it is guaranteed that the obstetrics professional has to know and be concerned with the newborn, and on the other hand, the pediatrics professional must have a deep look at the events of theprenatal care and childbirth.In the 1960s, perinatology gained strength, breaking paradigms with the appreciation of obstetric and neonatal clinics, in addition to the emergence of important technologies such as cardiotocography/amniocentesis/amnioscopy/fetal scalp blood collection and intrauterine intraperitoneal (Liley) transfusion.In the 1980s, fetal medicine arrived with extraordinary advances, such as ultrasound ofquality/cordocentesis/intra-uterine/intra-vascular transfusion, translating that the fetus should be treated asa patient.In the 3rd millennium, we saw the arrival of cutting-edge technology such as 3D-4D USG/fetal surgery/fetoscopy with absolute improvements and especially with the humanized interaction with the patient.All the acquired knowledge associated with advanced instrumental equipment came to take care ofprogress in the quality and quantity of life for mothers and their children, truly showing us whatclassic perinatology aphorism, where “the trophy of the obstetrician and pediatrician is the healthy mother at home with herhealthy offspring, suckling”.
